Ooooooooh! Tornado! Lightning! Thunder! Hail! All in the last 4 hours. Who said CA weather was boring? They lie.

I was sitting at Starbucks in Barnes and Noble with my dad's colleague's daughter who is thinking of going to school in England when we saw the biggest lightning flash and thunder. It struck the ground about 2 blocks from us and then the wind kicked up. About a mile away, a funnel cloud touched down. Thank God I was hunkered down where there was an unlimited supply of mocha frappuchino and books. If I'm going to get trapped anywhere away from home, it better be someplace where I can have caffeine AND something good to read.

It was a perfectly lovely day earlier this morning. I helped my dad clean out his koi pond and we discovered who the fish bandit is. I saw a huge, white crane in the yard a few days ago but didn't think to say anything until yesterday. My dad said some of his fish looked scratched up but didn't know why. Well, it wasn't the cat he took to the pound the day after Christmas afterall! HA! I knew it! So, he bought this sprinkler mounted on a motion detector that goes off when anything comes near his pond. Hopefully that'll keep the flying fish killer out of the back garden.
Since I haven't posted any pics in a while, this is my parent's backyard that I've spent hours working in since returning to CA.
