mind the gap

09 September 2007

The downside to the trip last weekend was the damage done to my already twingey back. The flight from Salt Lake City to Orlando was full of Mormons on the way to Disney World and apparently, there were no pillows to be had anywhere. My lower back has been in knots ever since. I'm back to using copious amounts of Icy Hot and trying to stay off my feet. Of course, that is impossible while trying to teach all day.

The best part of the week was learning I was losing my 4 worst kids to our remedial reading program. They blew off the diagnostic test I told them to take seriously and now are whining that they are no longer in my class. My 5th period will come around after all. The borderline bad ones are shaping up now that the really bad ones are gone. It's tough being new because you can't whine about having tough classes. You just suck it up and deal. But I was never so glad to see the backside of a few as I was those 4.

I've spent the weekend trying to rest my back and get caught up on the house and yard. I got the front yard mowed but the back is still a jungle. The laundry is done but not folded. The bed needs to be changed. It's hard to get it all done with pain but I'm managing.
