mind the gap

02 January 2007

Yesterday was a mellow day. And I mean lazy, lazy, did nothing all day except have dinner with my parents kind of day. Today was more pro-active.

My dad came round about 11:30 to help me take down the Christmas lights outside. One string had blown a fuse and had to be chucked. Ah well. It was one less thing to pack up. We made a quick trip to the hardware store and bought a water heater blanket and some pipe wrap. My water heater is outside in the laundry porch and this month my gas bill was $120! So, I'm on a mission to start saving some money and energy. We wrapped up the water heater and discovered the previous owners had it turned all the way up to 180F!! No wonder the water is always scalding hot and the gas bill is through the roof. We also cleaned the filter on the heater. I didn't know it was a reuseable kind so we had to scrub all the black nasty soot and dust off of it before we could put it back up. It was so gross. But already the heater is running quieter and I haven't heard it make that loud thunk-ka-chunk noise it makes when it shuts off. Maybe the filthy filter was the problem!

Disa's coming down this weekend for a play day or two. Should be fun, as always.
