15 December 2006 Finals start on Monday and I have only a minor stack of papers to get through by Thursday afternoon. I'm not as far ahead as I'd like to be but I'm not swimming in notebooks. I am, however, 100% bored at my job. We're not really allowed to be creative with how we teach; everything has to be out of the textbook. Apparently our textbook can cure cancer, bring about world peace and feed every starving child in the 10/40 window. It's amazing. But it doesn't help kids really love literature. It doesn't make teaching interesting or fun. It's just a dry textbook.____ I'm getting a handle on my Christmas shopping this year and I'm trying really hard not to spend a lot of money. I don't have a lot of extra money laying around but I'm comfortable. I've gotten gifts for my mom, dad, BIL and Heather. I still have to get something for sister and Disa, and people at work. I think that will be about it because I can't afford much else. The rest will be homemade stuff or ornaments. ____ Nicest thing said to me this week? "Miss, you're my favorite teacher this year. You're the best teacher I have." A far cry from "You're a fat bitch" that I got in Essex. ____ Dinner is baking. The washing machine is running outside. It's sprinkling and the dog is snoring. Life is good. |
