mind the gap

21 January 2006

Tracey came over to Glasgow today and we tromped around the city, avoiding the Bloody Sunday Rememberance parade. It was cold but dry.

We started out at George Square for the bus tour. If not for the drunk Germans and my camera battery dying, it would've been quite nice! But oh well. We rode along the west end. University of Glasgow is really lovely, reminds me of part of Oxford. The buildings really are lovely. There's fab architecture up here. The east side of the city was shut down by the parade because the police were afraid there would be a repeat of last year's march that went badly. All we saw was lots of police, complete with horses and dogs and a few marchers. After a stop to Starbucks, the east side was opened up again and we ventured to Glasgow Cathedral. It's this amazing building, gothic arches and gorgeous stained glass windows. We also walked to the churchyard and I walked to the top of the Necropolis which was so peaceful. I took a lot of pics on my SLR but will have to wait to scan them and post them here. We walked across the street to the oldest house in Glasgow and then to the museum of religious art just to see the gift shop! It was a good thing we went in there because I found some ornaments my mom wanted.

We got back on the bus to finish the tour of the east side of the city. We wanted to have a curry but the place was closed so we had Italian instead. Tracey had to head back so I've been in the hotel since about 5:30, just relaxing and enjoying the bathtub.

Tomorrow, Stirling Castle!
