mind the gap

09 April 2007

I've been on spring break for the last 10 days so I haven't spent a lot of time at home or in front of the computer. It's been a nice mental break to be away from work for a while but it's been a whirlwind of activity. There was all kinds of stuff going on at church, birthday parties for family, Easter, Good Friday concert, errands, laundry, house cleaning. My life is a thrill a minute.

I've had 2 job offers, one at a middle school and one at a HS district about 45 mins south of here. I turned down the middle school and will most likely turn down the HS district too as I don't want to commute that far. I want to be choosy about where I go because it's where I will have to stay for a while. I've applied to a few of the American schools in England but so far, haven't heard more than a 'Thank you for your application' email. I know I'll find something, it's just a matter of finding the right place.

I've also applied for my EdD from my London uni. I still have to write my proposal and have 2 references done but we'll see how things work out. I qualify for an HSMP visa with the new changes brought in last autumn but it's a crap shoot as far as finding a job and is quite expensive. It's also not a guaranteed thing I'd get it. London is still such a huge part of my psyche that it's hard to let go of the idea that I'm not going back. I WILL go back; it's just a matter of when and how to do it legally.
