So it was an episode of Law and Order right outside my flat tonight.

I was on the phone with Michael and heard a dog barking and what sounded like a bottle being broken on the ground. Lots of yelling. I looked out the window and saw three black teens/early 20s male hitting another black male who had on a yellow jacket. The dog was attacking and lunging at the guy in the yellow. One of the guys in black ran over with what I thought was a thick, squared board and hit the guy across the face/head with it. The guy in yellow was trying to jump over the brick wall in front of the building across the street to get away from them and the dog. He ran up to the door and someone opened it finally and he went inside but the dog was still biting him. One of the guys in black was trying to get his dog off of him and finally the dog let go. They shut the door and the 3 guys ran away down the road. I was on the phone with 999 police when they got the dog off him and started to run away. When they hit him with the pipe, I told Michael I had to go and called 999.

So the police took my statement and said someone would come and take my formal statement in a few days. I'm the only credible witness to the whole thing other than the victim. My neighbors only heard the screaming, the dog barking and saw the guy bleeding. I saw them hit him. I thought it was a board they hit him with but it was a piece of square pipe with a handle, like a bit of wrought iron fence. I showed the police where it was and it was covered in blood. They took the pipe and his jacket with them. I told the police I wasn't sure if I could ID them but I saw what they were wearing. I guess if they catch the guys who did it, I'd have to try and ID them.
