mind the gap

07 March 2005

I got up this morning, made the bed (yes, I make the bed now), and went to the bathroom. When I finished my business, I went to wash my hands and there was NO WATER even though the toilet flushed with no problem. Odd. I went into the kitchen and turned on the taps. No water. Hmmmm. Back to the bathroom. Tub runs cold water but no hot. Sink runs cold water, no hot. Kitchen taps.. nothing.
I started racking my brain. I paid my water bill. Why wouldn't there be any water? So I called Thames Water. After a short wait, they informed me that the leaking water main (that has been gushing water into the gutter for the last 2 weeks) is being fixed and all water service is disrupted. If my service isn't restored by 4:30pm, ring back but in the meantime, conserve the water in my loo because it's what's stored in my tank and won't be replenished until service comes back.
It's amazing how not having water all the sudden made me feel like I HAD TO HAVE A DRINK. And brush my teeth. And shower. And wash dishes. And run laundry.
