mind the gap

21 February 2005

My dear friend Ruffina had to go to the eye hospital today to see an opthamalogist because she was diagnosed with the beginnings of glaucoma (I still hear that word in Tammy's voice.. "Teddy has glaucoma."). Anyway, Ruffina hates going to the eye doctor and so I told her I'd go with her today. I got up at 7:15am and got to the Tube about 8. But of course! The Victoria line was delayed. I was debating whether I should switch over to the Piccadilly line but the doors finally slid shut and we were off. Changing to the Circle line at Kings Cross is always an adventure and of course! More delays! We arrive at Edgware Road and the conductor says the next train for Paddington was on the other platform so I changed trains again. Ruffina was getting worried about where I was and managed to ring me at the only time I had a signal on my phone. Edgware Road station is good for something at least. I arrived at Paddington with time still to spare.
The eye hospital should be renamed Medical Facility full of old people who walk with canes. It took over 40 minutes for them to call us back and then we were only with the doctor for about 5 minutes. Sandra was too skittish to go back in the exam room so I managed to go in there alone with Ruffina. The good news is there was no sign of glaucoma and her optic nerve is in great shape. We hopped back in a taxi and headed for Ruffina's flat where we celebrated over tea and biscuits. Lots of giggling and slagging of PBHE was done and I headed toward home about noon.
At some point, I decided to go home via Camden and get my nails done. I took my nails off a few weeks ago because I couldn't find anyone to do a fill. But I hate my fingers without nice nails so I got them put back on. The girl who did them wasn't as good as Songkhla but better than the other places I'd been before. So yay! I found a place to get my nails done after living here for 7 months.
It's bitterly cold today with a little rain and intermittent snow (according to Laura who rang to ask me if there was snow in Finsbury Park because it was raining in Hackney). Ah, no snow here yet but maybe later today. I've been cold all day so it's good to be home and in my sweats. Brr! It's days like this that I wish my chimney was operational.
